Nathan Walker, the first Australian selected in an NHL draft, is starting to make some noise in Hershey.  Walker has scored two goals and has four assists in his last two and 1/3 games for the Bears. After experiencing a disappointing season last year, this may be Walker’s time.

Walker suffered a torn ACL on February 2nd, 2015 while playing for the South Carolina Stingrays.  Walker underwent immediate surgery in Washington, before returning home to Australia to rehab. Walker was able to quickly rehabilitate in time for the Capitals development camp this past summer, and once again, was selected to participate in the Capitals training camp in September.

In an interview with Fox Sports last May, Capitals Head Coach Barry Trotz was asked about the “Wizard of Auz”.

“His story, you could almost make a movie out of it really,” Trotz said.  “Australia should be very proud of their countryman, because he will play in the National Hockey League”.  “I think that he will have his moment to play, and it will be a big story, it’ll be a great story.”
