Washington Capitals’ Matt Roy “Definitely A Possibility” To Return To Lineup vs. Nashville Predators On Wednesday

Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery announced on Tuesday that defenseman Matt Roy is “definitely a possibility” to return to the lineup on Wednesday vs. the Nashville Predators (7 PM ET, Monumental Sports Network in-market, ESPN+ out-of-market). The 29-year-old participated in the team’s practice on Tuesday while taking full contact and participating in line rushes for the first time since sustaining a lower-body injury.

Roy has missed the past 10 games since getting injured in Washington’s season opener on October 12. The Capitals placed the 29-year-old on injured reserve on October 28.

Roy lasted just 8:39 into his Washington debut after signing a six-year contract with the Capitals on July 1 as an unrestricted free agent but there has not been a play identified in which the injury occurred.

Defenseman Jakob Chychrun, who has missed the past three games with a lower-body injury, skated prior to the team’s practice but did not remain on the ice with his teammates. The 26-year-old lasted just 1:50 into the Capitals’ 5-3 win over the New York Rangers on October 29 before leaving the ice.

Chychrun is eligible to be activated off of injured reserve at any point having already missed a week.

Washington, who enters Tuesday sitting in third place in the Metropolitan Division with a .727 points percentage (8-3-0 record) after Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, also hosts the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday and visits the St. Louis Blues on Saturday before taking a three-day break.
