The loss dropped Washington’s record to 37-31-11 (.538 points percentage) this season. Goaltender Charlie Lindgren made 13 saves in the defeat. Buffalo was eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention earlier this week. The Pittsburgh Penguins were on top of the Detroit Red Wings by a score of 5-4; both teams entered Thursday a point behind Washington for the final postseason spot in the Eastern Conference.
