Bears Down Phantoms, 4-0; Clay Stevenson Posts First Career AHL Shutout, Bears Penalty Kill Goes 8 For 8

The Hershey Bears downed the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, 4-0 Saturday night at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA.  Clay Stevenson made 32 saves in his first career AHL shutout and Ivan Miroshnichenko recorded two assists in the win. The victory improves the Bears record to 5-2-0 on the season.

Clay Stevenson got the start between the pipes for the Bears. Cal Petersen got the start in goal for the visiting Phantoms. The forward lines and defensive pairs for the Bears:

Recalls: Hunter Shepard was recalled by the Capitals on Tuesday and returned to Hershey on Saturday.


FIRST PERIOD

The Bears opened the scoring with less than two minutes left in the first period. Pierrick Dubé (2) notched the game’s opening tally at 18:25, with Joe Snively (4), Ivan Miroshnichenko (2) providing the helpers on the power play.

And that was it for the first frame. Hershey led in shots, 7-3. Lehigh Valley was 0 for 2 and Hershey 1 for 1 on the power play in the first frame.


SECOND PERIOD

The Bears stretched their lead to 2-0 early in the middle frame on Mike Veccione‘s third goal of the season at 6:53 of the period. Aaron Ness (2) and Mike Sgarbossa (4) had the assists.

And that was it for the second period. Hershey led in shots 12-11 in the second period, and 19-14 after two periods. Lehigh Valley was 0 for 6 and Hershey 1 for 3 on the power play after two periods of play.


THIRD PERIOD

The Bears added to their lead on Pierrick Dubé ‘s second goal of the game at 10:02 of the third period. Ivan Miroshnichenko (3) and Ryan Hofer (1) had the helpers. It was Hofer’s first career AHL point.

Logan Day added an empty net goal with 4:13 remaining in regulation to make it 4-0.
