The Ontario Hockey League’s Niagara IceDogs announced that they have hired former longtime NHL head coach Bruce Boudreau as a Senior Advisor to the team.
Boudreau, who most-recently coached the Vancouver Canucks (and whose dismissal from the club was heavily-criticized), joins his son Ben Boudreau as a member of the IceDogs; Ben was hired by Niagara as an Associate Coach in July of this year.
Said Boudreau in a statement released by the team:
“I am very proud, happy and excited to help the Niagara IceDogs in any way I can. The Niagara area will always have a special place in heart. I look forward to one day celebrating a Memorial Cup with the Niagara IceDogs.”
Boudreau, who coached broke into the NHL’s coaching ranks with the Washington Capitals in the 2007-08 season, is a veteran of 1,087 NHL games coached, ranking 20th (tied with Jacques Lemaire) all-time in Wins. Prior to his promotion in November 2007 to Washington, Boudreau guided the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears to a Calder Cup championship in 2006.
We are excited to announce the hiring of Jack Adams Award winner, Bruce Boudreau as Senior Advisor!

IceDogs Owner Darren DeDobbelaer said of the hire:
“Michele and I are more than excited to welcome Bruce. Anytime you can add someone with a pedigree, history and passion like Bruce can bring, it has to be a win for everyone involved. We are humbled that he would even consider our offer.”
Boudreau played in 141 NHL games as a player, and also spent time coaching in the Colonial Hockey League (now United Hockey League), ECHL, and won the NHL’s Jack Adams Award in 2008 for his turnaround of the Capitals.

Congrats to Bruce (aka Gabby) and the ICE DOGS! Bruce leaves nothing on the table; he al all about the game and the players. I will miss seeing him coaching in the NHL. Gabby, the Capitals and the CAPS FANS had a great run and fun with him as he completely turned our team around into a CUP contender.
Adding my congratulations. The Niagara Ice Dogs are lucky to have someone with his diverse experience at the helm!
Adding my congratulations as well a lot of hockey knowledge in Gabby’s head.
Bruce, there it is!
I wonder what a Senior Advisor does.
Greetings Caps fans, and welcome to the 2023-24 season! 🙌
