Washington Capitals defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk set a new career-high in Goals on Tuesday night with two goals in the first 40 minutes of the team’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

van Riemsdyk, who played his 500th NHL game earlier this season against brother James and the Philadelphia Flyers, scored his first goal in the first period against Columbus, assisted by Nicolas Aube-Kubel.

TvR’s second goal came at the 8:26 mark of the second period, on a slick pass from Evgeny Kuznetsov; Erik Gustafsson recorded the secondary assist.

With his second tally of the night, van Riemsdyk set a new career-high in Goals in a season, surpassing his previous high of five goals set in 2016-17 with the Chicago Blackhawks. In addition, the two-goal night marks his first multi-goal game.
