Washington Capitals Center Nic Dowd and his wife Paige welcomed their second child to the world, a daughter named Ruby James Elizabeth.
In a post to Instagram, Paige posted a photo of Ruby (named after her maternal great-great-grandmother) in her hospital bassinet wrapped in a blanket and laying on a another filled with golden retrievers (the Dowds have a golden named Arlo) with a caption welcoming her to the world:
“Ruby James Elizabeth Dowd. You’re 6lbs 5oz of perfection. Our daughter.
Ruby is named after my great grandma and someone who was so special to me. She already fits the name perfectly. her brother can’t wait to meet her!”
The Capitals also posted a photo of the proud parents with the newborn, congratulating the family on their new addition and saying both mom and baby are doing great.

The couple also shares son Louie (3), who celebrated his third birthday on December 31. Nic signed a three-year contract last season and has been a staple on the Caps’ fourth-line. The Dowds have become involved in a number of initiatives since Nic signed with Washington in 2018, most notably their “Dowd’s Crowd” organization, which provides the opportunity for children with autism to be able to attend and enjoy a Capitals game.
