With the secondary assist on Dylan Strome’s second goal of the night against the Dallas Stars on Thursday, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has officially become the 16th player in NHL history to reach 1,500 career NHL points.

He is the second active player to reach that mark and is the 12th-fastest in NHL history to reach the milestone. He is playing in his 1,370th career NHL game.

Ovechkin currently has 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) in 23 games with the Capitals this season. Prior to Thursday night, the 38-year-old had not scored a goal in seven straight games and only had two assists in his last five.

The Russian winger is already first in franchise history in points and goals and ranks second in assists behind teammate Nicklas Backstrom.

Ovechkin currently has the second most goals in NHL history (827) and is 67 tallies away from passing Wayne Gretzky for the most all-time.
