While it took a long time, Nicklas Backstrom’s return to the Washington Capitals’ lineup was a welcome one earlier in the year. No. 19 is already one of the best players in the history of the franchise, and made more history by playing in the team’s Thursday night game against the New Jersey Devils.
By taking the ice against the Devils, Backstrom moved into the Top 10 in Games Played by Swedish-born players, taking sole possession of 10th all-time, having been tied with Ulf Samuelsson.

The Capitals’ 2006 first-round pick is now two games shy of passing longtime Detroit Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg for ninth all-time. Backstrom is eighth (267) in Goals, fourth (755) in Assists, and sixth (1,022) in Points among his fellow countrymen.
