Bruins Blank Bears, 1-0

The Hershey Bears fell to the Providence Bruins, 1-0 Saturday night at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA. The Bears held the Bruins to just 11 shots in the game, two shots in the third period, in the loss. The defeat drops the Bears record to 34-14-5-2 (75 points) on the season. The Bears remain one point ahead of Providence for first place in the Atlantic Division.

LINEUP

Hunter Shepard (13-4-5-1, 2.17 GAA, .916 sv%) got the start between the pipes for the Bears. Kyle Keyser (7-2-2-0, 2.44 GAA, .912 sv%) got the start in goal for the visiting Bruins. The forward lines and defensive pairs for the Bears:

Scratches: Dyaln McIlrath, Aliaksei Protas, Hendrix Lapierre (upper body injury), Sam Anas (abdominal surgery, practicing, no-contact jersey), Kale Kessy (upper body injury), Shane Gersich, Michael Kim and Matt Strome.

Recalls/Reassignments: The Capitals recalled defensemen Vinny Iorio and Gabriel Carlson on Friday. They also returned defenseman Dylan McIlrath to the Bears on Friday.

The Bears recalled Benton Maass on Thursday and Michael Kim on Friday from ECHL South Carolina.

FIRST PERIOD

The Bears and Bruins skated to a scoreless draw in the firs stanza.

Hershey led in shots, 6-3 for the first 20 minutes.

Providence was 0 for 1 and Hershey 0 for 2 on the power play in the first 20 minutes.

SECOND PERIOD

It was the same story in the middle frame.

Hershey led in shots 10-6 in the second period and 16-9 after 40 minutes of play.

Both teams were 0 for 3 on the power play after two periods.

THIRD PERIOD

The Bruins finally broke the seal on the scoring with just 6:03 left in regulation. Marc McLaughlin (11) notched the game’s first tally. Chris Wagner (7) and Jack Ahcan (25) had the helpers.

And that was it, as the Bruins hung on for the 1-0 victory. The Bruins had just two shots in the third period.

Bears head coach Todd Nelson said he was keeping tabs on Vinny Iorio and Gabriel Carlsson’s stats for Caps tonight, during the Bears game. “Don’t worry, I was keeping tabs on the game. I think Carly, I’m not sure what he finished, but he was a +3 at one point.”

    Better result down in North Charleston. South Carolina again showcased their offense (44 sog), defense (only allowed Atlanta 25 shots), great goalkeeping (Tyler only let 1 through), and scoring (6 goals). Bear got a goal and an assist but only 2 sog. Has had 0,0,0. Third game of this weekend tomorrow afternoon. I would expect Clay to be back in the net.
