The Washington Capitals defeated the Anaheim Ducks by a score of 3-2 in overtime at Honda Center on Wednesday night. The game was both teams’ last before the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline, which is at 3 PM ET on Friday. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 21 saves in the win.

After trading left-wing Marcus Johansson to the Minnesota Wild, defenseman Erik Gustafsson as part of a deal to acquire Sandin from the Toronto Maple Leafs, and center Lars Eller to the Colorado Avalanche over the past two days, Sheary bumped down to the fourth-line and Alexeyev drew into the lineup. Sandin was scratched due to immigration issues. Mantha returned after missing three straight games with an upper-body injury.
