Capitals Place Joe Snively On Waivers

The Washington Capitals have waived forward Joe Snively with the intention of re-assigning him to AHL Hershey. The move, in conjunction with the re-assignment of Aliaksei Protas, was made to make room on the roster for the return of Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson, who will make their season debuts on Sunday.

Snively, 27, was never drafted but signed a two-year deal with the Capsitals in 2019 for $925,000 per year. The Capitals re-signed Snively to a one-year, two-way contract extension on June 3, 2021 and re-signed him to a two-year deal on March 16, 2022. He will be a restricted free agent in 2024-25.

Snively, a native of Herndon, Virginia, played in six games and recorded one assist during the first half of the 2022-23 season. He made his NHL debut during the 2021-22 season and recorded four goals and three assists in just 12 games played before sustaining a season-ending wrist injury.

If none of the other 31 teams claim Snively by 2:00PM on Sunday, Snively will report to Hershey.

    Blecch!

There was a phrase during the heyday of hippiedom “Don’t trust anyone over 30”

Obviously PL doesn’t trust anyone UNDER 30

I’ve lived by that motto my entire life, even after the age of 30 😁

Great post KimRB….well wait, maybe not.

I guess you mean no one under 30 not named Milano, Fehervary, Alexeyev,, Aube-Kubel and Strome all younger than Snively as was Protas.

The old adage of best to “say” nothing at all rather than….

Hershey getting even stronger. Might be better than Columbus. Should let them play Sunday.

No doubt. Best record in the AHL right now, and have added Aliaksei Protas and could add Snively tomorrow.
