Charlie Lindgren will start in net for the Washington Capitals when they host the Montreal Canadiens in a New Year’s Eve matinee on Saturday (4 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington in-market, ESPN+ out-of-market), according to head coach Peter Laviolette.
It will be the 29-year-old’s second start in five games since starter Darcy Kuemper returned from an upper-body injury and first since a 25-save performance in a 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets on December 23.
Saturday’s game will also be Lindgren’s second game against his former team. He made 22 saves in the St. Louis Blues’ 4-1 win over Montreal on December 11, 2021.
Defenseman Martin Fehervary will return after missing 12 games with an upper-body injury. He left Washington’s 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames on December 3 after getting hit by left-wing Milan Lucic in the second period.
Laviolette previously announced that right-wings Tom Wilson (ACL) and T.J. Oshie (upper-body) will not play against Montreal.
