Gustafsson, who leads NHL defensemen in scoring over the last 10 days, extended his point-streak to five (five goals, eight points) with a secondary assist. The goal marked the Capitals’ third five-on-three goal this season, which is tied for the NHL lead. Kuznetsov extended his point-streak to three games (three assists, four points).

Let’s hope Jensen is okay. There was blood drawn against him in one of the ending PK’s. Sheary also seemed to be limping after his empty net goal. Nothing like a pyrrhic penalty kill that was successful in its objective but costly.

  2. Jon Sorensen says:

This team is REALLY playing well. Stats say top 3 team in the league since mid-November, and I believe it!

There’s been a lot of criticism thrown at PL, much of it justified, but I don’t think anyone can deny he’s got the boys playing the right way. The 1-3-1 defensive scheme is working beautifully, and everyone is buying in. You can win a lot of hockey games when you have that combination. So good job PL

I sat down this even with a Ledos pizza and cold beer and prepared to watch the game and hope that the Caps didnt get embarrassed. Wow was I ever happy that I was wrong. This has to be one of the bet games that this team has played this year! Keep Wilson, Backy. and all the others on IR off the ice and lets see what these guys can do!! of the next 10 games 7 are home games….time to make some hay guys!

its the system. Lavi’s system. This is why the guy is a cup winner and known for turning teams around. Credit to the players who have now figured it out and playing it right. Just a ton of fun to watch right now because they are always in the right places.

Biggest surprise to me has been Gustafsson. He has fit in extremely well once he got used to the system.

    • KimRB says:

I agree. The 1-3-1 defensive strategy is working perfectly. Just don’t peak too early! Save some of this great play for April and……(knock wood) later
