Per Mike Vogel, Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson is being taken to a local hospital for a “precautionary evaluation” after taking a slapshot to the head during Friday’s game at Capital One Arena against the Winnipeg Jets.
Head coach Peter Laviolette provided the update following the game:
Laviolette on Carlson: “It’s tough that Carly wasn’t there tonight because he sits right next to Ovi and is such a loud, vocal piece inside the locker room. Right now he is under the care of team physicians, and is being transported to the hospital for precautionary evaluation.”

Carlson was struck by a slapshot by former teammate Brenden Dillon with not even two minutes gone by in the third frame of play.

He had skated 16:12 prior to exiting the game, with two shots on net, and was bleeding heavily following the hit, but skated to the locker room under his own power, trailed by Capitals head athletic trainer Jason Serbus.

Prayers up for you John.
I still can’t tell where it caught him. Temple?
Hard to say and not worth speculating at this point. Just hope he’s ok.
Like Lavi mentioned, also a shame JC wasn’t there for the history. Minor in comparison to a person’s health, but still a major bummer.
