Over the course of his NHL career, Dmitry Orlov has been among the most durable of the Washington Capitals’ defensemen, and on Saturday night, provided the overtime heroics against the Detroit Red Wings.
With under 30 seconds left in the overtime period and the Caps and Red Wings on the verge of a shootout, Orlov notched the game-winning tally to give the home Capitals a 4-3 victory; Marcus Johansson and Nic Dowd picked up the assists on the play.

The goal marks Orlov’s fourth career overtime goal and his fourth point in five contests since returning from injury.

The goal also gives Orlov his 59th career goal, passing Al Iafrate (with whom he had been tied) for ninth all-time in Goals Scored among blueliners in franchise history. Orlov has 59 goals and 187 assists in 661 Games Played in the District.
