The Washington Capitals officially placed goaltender Darcy Kuemper and defenseman Alex Alexeyev on injured reserve on Sunday morning.
Darcy Kuemper (upper) and Alexander Alexeyev (upper) both placed on IR. Kuemper retro to Dec. 3, so he’d be eligible to play Tuesday in Chicago if ready

The move may seem partially counterintuitive, as Kuemper skated with the team this morning. However, the moves effectively make room for the recent callups of Lucas Johansen and Dylan McIlrath.
Kuemper will be eligible to return on Tuesday against the Blackhawks, if he is ready.
Less is known about the status of Alex Alexeyev, who was injured with an elbow to the head Friday night against the Seattle Kraken.

This is one hell of a crazy shell game. I gotta see how it turns out.
No update on Alexeyev status is concerning. He is so injury prone, his entire career.
While Alexeyev was riddled with injuries in his Junior career, he made it through an entire KHL season without injury. He was relatively healthy in Hershey as well. His Capitals career…well, that’s starting to resemble his Junior days. Hopefully this is the end of the injuries for a while with him.
No surprise on Darcy finally being placed on IR. And Alexeyev on IR. If Alexeyev didn’t have bad luck with regard to injuries, he’d have no luck at all. (I’ve said the same on LuJo.)
Fun fact, they are almost exactly 2 years apart in age with LuJo born on 11/16/1997 and AA born on 11/15/1999.
Can Alexeyev be sent to Hershey for rehab stint again? He needs games!
If I recall correctly, there was no call by the refs on the run in with Kuemper. Should’ve been goalie interference call? And now DK is officially on IR—gotta think Lindy is pumped to be starting and getting in some games now. He’s proving his worth and value so far, yeah?
I kept thinking that maybe we should’ve kept one our own, Vanecek—especially with the hot start he’s got going with NJ. But then he got shelled by the Islanders the other night and got chased out of the game. So Lindy has been a great back up.
