The NHL Department of Player Safety announced Saturday morning that Seattle Kraken defenseman Jamie Oleksiak will have a hearing today for an illegal check to the head on Washington Capitals defenseman Alexander Alexeyev during Friday’s game at Capital One Arena.

Minutes after picking up his first NHL point, Alexeyev left during the second period, appearing to be in severe discomfort, and headed down the tunnel following the hit from Oleksiak, who was given a match penalty for an illegal check to the head.

The Capitals announced during the second intermission that Alexeyev would not return to the game due to an upper-body injury.

    Thoughts on how many games?

  2. novafyre says:

I’ve stopped predicting what DOPES will give out. But what if they made it equal — felon sits out same number as victim?

    • Jon Sorensen says:

You are a smart man, Fyre. I need to stop guessing too. They just don’t seem to follow any kind of logic structure in their verdicts.

      • Diane Doyle says:

In my snarkiest moments, I wonder if they give extra games for misdeeds done against the fair haired teams (Pittsburgh) and punish the non-fair haired teams worse for the same offense.

        • Nhock2 says:

Not snarky at all. It’s sad but true about the favorite teams. If a Cap hit Oleksiak or any player in that manager it would be.no less than a 20 game suspension.
He might get the max …. Fine that is!

  3. Diane Doyle says:

DoPS will be very busy today. Between Oleksiak and Jeff Skinner who cross checked a Penguin. There is a lot more internet outrage about that one. But, then again, the Penguins are the Golden Boys of the league. It’s a guarantee that any misdeed done against a Penguin will be punished.
