Beck Malenstyn Underwent Surgery On Finger, Expected To Miss 6-8 Weeks

The Washington Capitals announced Friday afternoon that forward Beck Malenstyn had surgery to repair a fractured finger and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

Malenstyn was injured blocking a shot in the first period of Tuesday night’s game against the Vegas Knights.

The Capitals announced on Wednesday that they had placed Malenstyn, along with forward T.J. Oshie and defenseman John Carlson, on injured reserve and recalled Sonny Milano, Garrett Pilon and Lucas Johansen from the Hershey Bears.

The Capitals recalled Malenstyn on October 19. The move came after right-wing Connor Brown sustained a lower-body injury in the team’s 6-4 win over the Vancouver Canucks the previous night.

Malenstyn had a goal and an assist in five games played before sustaining the injury to his finger earlier this week.

For Malenstyn, this is yet another setback in his development as he works to secure a spot on the Capitals roster. All signs were pointing to the 2020-21 season as Malenstyn’s breakthrough year. Then he suffered a torn Achilles during a normal, everyday workout in the fall of 2020, that caused him to miss the entire 2020-21 season.

”We were just doing shuttle sprints in the gym. A regular day activity for me that unfortunately, just went wrong,” Malenstyn said. “Just a freak accident.”

This is the future 4th line left winger to me. Great fit with Dowd and Hathaway too. This sucks. Hope he comes back strong in the new year and gets the spot back.

I have been highly impressed with his play and agree he is the LW on the 4th line for the future. Bad time to get injured but at least Snively has 6-8 weeks to show what he can do! And unlike CNN he will be playing his natural position….Wing!

Reflecting on last nights game I have come to the conclusion that the HC is to blame for the loss. It appears that just as players are getting comfortable in their roles and line mates he switches them up. Yes these guys are professionals but in a sport where so much relies on your knowledge and trust and feel for your line mates he seems to want to destroy it as soon as the players start to get comfortable.

I hope Kempny’s luck hasn’t rubbed off on him.

Would he rehab in Hershey or North Charleston?

    • Jon Sorensen says:

That’s who I thought of immediately.

Jon, I have mentioned this a few times before, but NovaCaps (WordPress I assume) is no longer sending me an email asking me to confirm that I want to be notified of followup comments to my comment. And it’s not notifying me of any followups either. It has been over two weeks now. Yes, it was irritating to have to click on the emailed link to subscribe every time but at least I then did get notified. Now, I have to manually review each article’s comments to see if there are any replies — such as yours above.

If there are things I can try to do, please tell me. If there is something you can do, please do it.

I checked on our end, it’s nothing we did, or are able to toggle. Since it’s not happening to anyone else, I suspect it’s something you may have inadvertently toggled on your end. If you are sure you didn’t, the only thing I can suggest is re-typing your email in the subscription box above.

Bummer. He fits in very well on that line.

NAK would be a good pickup. Right handed. 26. Scored 23 and won a cup last year. Good body to have as replacement for Leason. Will be interesting to see if others put a claim in ahead of us.
