Former Caps Watch: Updates On Axel Jonsson-Fjallby and Brett Leason

Our latest former Caps watch provides an update on the recently waived Axel Jonason-Fjallby and Brett Leason. Both players were waived by the Capitals in October 9 and claimed the following day – Jonason-Fjallby by the Winnipeg Jets and Brett Leason, by the Anaheim Ducks.

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby (Winnipeg Jets) – Jonsson-Fjallby has played four games for the Jets, averaging just under 8 minutes a game. He has no points and an expected goals for percentage of 42.48%. He most recently started at left wing on the 4th line for the Jets on October 24.

Brett Leason – (Anaheim Ducks) Leason has played in just two games for the Anaheim Ducks, averaging just under 12 minutes per game. He has no points and the team’s lowest expected goals for percentage (xGF%) of just 7.23%. He most recently started at right wing on the 4th line for the Ducks on October 22.

Summary

Both Jonsson-Fjallby and Leason have yet to gain any kind of traction with their teams, although the number of games played is still low. Jonsson-Fjallby’s low minutes could be indicative of a player still learning a new system.

Leason’s current deal is for this season and next season ($775,000), which was initially perceived to be deterrent to be claimed off waivers. Jonsson-Fjallby’s current deal ($750,000) expires at the end of this season. He will be a restricted free agent.

Both players look like they could hit the waiver wire again, particularly Leason.

Thanks for the update. Ant way you could do an update on all ex Caps and Hershey players still playing but elsewhere? I realize that would be a lot of work but Thanks in advance if you do and Thanks for thinking about it if you decide not to do it.

We’d have to limit the scope to a certain time frame, as in all former Capitals after the 2019-20 season. Else it would be really lengthy.
