Capitals Release Reverse Retro Jersey 2.0

The Washington Capitals, along with all 31 other NHL teams, released their “Reverse Retro 2022 ADIZERO” jerseys on Thursday morning. They brought back the screaming eagle but in a black design after the first reverse retro design two years ago was red.

“We are thrilled to unveil this year’s Capitals Reverse Retro jersey with adidas and the NHL and pay tribute to our first rebrand and such an important period in our team history,” said Monumental Sports & Entertainment Chief Marketing Officer Hunter Lochmann said in a statement.

“Following the success of our popular first Reverse Retro jersey in the red color scheme featuring the screaming eagle, we wanted to merge our original jerseys introduced in 1995 with the design. We’re excited not only to see their debut at Capital One Arena on Nov. 5, but also to throwback to the past throughout the season with a related theme night, programming and all-arena giveaways that celebrate the jersey and its history. Most importantly, unlike 2020, the fans will be able to see these great screaming eagle jerseys in person at Capital One Arena.”

The Capitals wore black uniforms from 1997-2007 before rebranding to their current home uniforms.

The uniform will likely come with black pants and socks, which the players wore in practice earlier this week.

The Capitals are the only team to have their jersey ad sponsor on their Reverse Retros for right now.

The shoulder patches on this year’s Reverse Retro jerseys feature the primary logo from those retired third jerseys — the Capitol dome with two crossed hockey sticks, a puck and a pair of copper stars. The Capitals’ original black jerseys featured players’ names and numbers in copper outlined with white and blue. The Reverse Retro version features names and numbers in white, outlined in blue and copper.

The team will wear these jerseys for the following games: Nov. 5 vs. Arizona Coyotes, Nov. 25 vs. Calgary Flames, Dec. 9 vs. Seattle Kraken, Dec. 23 vs. Winnipeg Jets, Dec. 31 vs. Montreal Canadiens, Jan. 3 vs. Buffalo Sabres, Jan. 14 vs. Philadelphia Flyers

In addition, the team will present four related all-arena giveaways. All-arena giveaway dates include:

Nov. 25 vs. Calgary – Reverse Retro T-shirt, Dec. 9 vs. Seattle – Reverse Retro snapback hat courtesy of Capital One, Jan. 3 vs. Buffalo – Reverse Retro pennant, Jan. 14 vs. Philadelphia – Reverse Retro jersey rally towel presented by Caesars.

In a nod to Alex Ovechkin’s rookie year, 2005 is printed on the inside neckline of this year’s jersey, which also features the Capitals’ Caesars Sportsbook advertising patch on the upper right chest. The collar features the NHL logo in the orange and black color scheme the league used until 2005.

The Reverse Retro 2022 ADIZERO jerseys are authentic NHL jerseys made with adidas innovation Primegreen: a series of high-performance materials containing a minimum of 50% recycled content. Each team will wear the adidas Reverse Retro ADIZERO Authentic jersey in multiple games during the 2022-23 NHL® season, including during special head-to-head matchups beginning Nov. 2 and continuing into early 2023.

Coming soon, the Capitals will also announce details surrounding a Rock the Retro Concert presented by FTX at the 9:30 Club to celebrate the jersey.

More information on how you can purchase your Reverse Retro 2.0 gear will likely be available soon. They will be available on Tuesday, November 15.

    So much fire

  2. KimRB says:

Shoulda stayed with the red. Just another scam to part fans from their money

  3. novafyre says:

Blah. Are the jerseys sold to the public going to have the ad on them as well? Can’t be authentic now without the extra advertising can they?

    • RB says:

Only the ones sold at Capital One and probably Medstar….that’s what I’ve heard anyway….kids sizes likely aren’t permitted to have them-,gambling, and all

      • novafyre says:

So if you want to show your support for the Caps, you also have to show support for their advertiser. No thanks. A second reason not to buy one.

      • KimRB says:

Maybe they should try getting alcohol ads. Or perhaps in certain states, Colorado for example, marijuana ads. I just love a family friendly league!

So what do we think of the new threads? 👍👎?

  5. DWGie26 says:

There are ok. I have a Zubrus Black jersey from back in the day. Also have the Blue W jersey (Backstrom) and Red (Wilson). Don’t think I’ll buy a retro jersey though. I do want to get a Red Fever jersey this year (ad and all). The Ceasars ad doesn’t bother me as much as others. I’m not a gambler either. Just don’t really care about one small ad. Many fear it will spiral out of control but I don’t think it will. The board advertising is where they will drive more revenue.

Sad as it is, the NHL is no longer really a family game. $800 for a family of 4 to go is tough. More for corporates or grown up people. That said, I am taking 3 teenagers to the game on Saturday against Kings. Haha.

They are sold out everywhere??? When are they making more?
