Conor Clutch: Conor Sheary Puts Capitals Ahead Late in Win Against Canucks, Continues Hot Start to the Season

Washington Capitals

Washington Capitals forward Conor Sheary has been called many things during his time in Washington: Shears, Swiss army knife, versatile. With a hot start to the 2022-23 season, “reliable” could be added to that list.

Sheary scored his third goal of the 2022-23 regular season in just his fourth game at the 12:44 mark of the third period, giving the Capitals a 5-4 lead on assists from Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Sheary now has three goals in the aforementioned four games playing on a number of lines this season for Head Coach Peter Laviolette; with an injury to Connor Brown earlier in the night, Sheary was called upon to fill in. The 30-year old is in the second season of a two-year deal signed with the Capitals in 2021. He is now leading the team in goals.

Sheary scored 19 goals over the course of 71 Games Played last season, recording the second-best Points total of his career (43). The former Pittsburgh Penguin and Buffalo Sabre is making just $1.5 million, proving to be a home run signings for the Caps in recent seasons.

In 128 Games Played with Washington, Sheary has 36 Goals, 32 Assists, and 68 Points.

What a great pickup. Signed late, a few weeks before start of COVID season (December?) best value on the team.

This guy brings it…he’s undersized but he hustles and works his ass off. I am really digging his game; he drives and gets to the net, he doesn’t curl off or circle around, he goes into the dirty areas.

Sheary baby, please keep it up!

He is on pace for 61 Goals and 0 Assists. Is it sustainable? Only time will tell.
