The Washington Capitals were back to work Tuesday morning for Day 12 of training camp at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. They next host the Detroit Red Wings Wednesday night at Capital One Arena in their 5th of six preseason games. They wrap their preseason schedule on Saturday when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Similar to Monday, the Capitals “extras”, Aliaksei Protas, Joe Snively, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Brett Leason and Henrik Borgstrom practiced ahead of the main team’s practice at 11AM.
LINES AND PAIRS
Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette made one small tweak to the lines on Tuesday, as the team closes in on it’s opening night lineup, one week from tomorrow. The forward lines and defensive pairs at Capitals training camp practice on Tuesday:

Connor McMichael and Marcus Johansson flipped lines on the left wing. Otherwise the forward lines were the same as yesterday. The defensive pairs and extras were also the same as yesterday, further signaling a potential lineup for next Wednesday night.

INTERVIEW WITH GARY BETTMAN
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman sat down for an interview with Sports Business Journal on Monday. Last season the league brought in a record $5.4 billion in revenue thanks to a series of successful developments: two new media deals with ESPN and Turner; a successful expansion team in Seattle; new venues both there and on Long Island; and the return of an 82-game schedule and full-capacity arenas. Bettman was asked how the league will improve on last season’s numbers.
“We keep it going by continuing to evolve to take advantage of technology. You’ll see digitally enhanced dasherboards this coming season and advertising on jerseys. We keep it going by doing more connectivity using technology with our fans on social media and digital platforms, by using the presence that ESPN and all their platforms and TNT and all their platforms give us and continue to look for new ways to connect our people and our fans to our game.”
He discussed the implementation of the digitally enhanced dasherboards, which the league announced on Monday.
“There’s going to be an increase in revenue as the clubs and we figure out how best to activate it and monetize it. We’ve created a model that’s kind of a hybrid between the league and the clubs, between visiting and home teams. And we’re going to have to monitor very closely how best to utilize it. It also gives us the opportunity to use our international feeds to create revenue opportunities because it enables us to put in their domestic advertising. So it’s going to be a revenue source with unlimited potential and one that lets us localize the dasherboards for whoever is seeing the game.”

- The Seattle Kraken have signed 25 year old forward Daniel Sprong to a one year, two-way contract worth $750,000 at the NHL level and $325,000 at the AHL level.
- The New York Islanders announced today that Mathew Barzal has agreed to terms on an eight-year contract.
- The Calgary Flames claimed Pittsburgh Penguin Radim Zohorna off the waiver wire on Monday. Zohorna spent the last 2 seasons with the Penguins.
- Montreal Canadiens sign Owen Beck to a three-year, entry-level contract that carries a cap hit of just under $917K.

If CMM is ever going to reach his full potential he is going to have to not only have consistant line partners but also play his natural position which is as a Center. And yes PLEASE anyone do a Tanya on MoJo so Protas plays!! (not really but something has to be done to get rid of some of the excess baggage but might have to start with the HC and his assistant McCarthy first.)

I find it really perplexing how the NHL and its fans are completely ignoring what is going on in Ukraine.
