The Washington Capitals have the day off on Sunday, which typically signals a day of potential roster reductions during training camp. To no surprise the team announced a third round of roster cuts on Sunday.
The Capitals loaned Hendrix Lapierre and Vincent Iorio to Hershey, and waived Beck Malenstyn, Garrett Pilon, Gabriel Carlsson, Dylan McIlrath, Bobby Nardella and Zach Fucale for the purpose of loaning to Hershey.

Dam waivers. But they do work both ways. Have you seen anyone waived by one of the other teams that the Caps might be interested in? They do have one spot left, yes?
I’ve been eye-balling daily, and haven’t seen anyone really worth a look. Hopefully a defenseman becomes available.
I’ve been watching as well, and haven’t really seen anyone that would take a spot on the roster.
No huge surprises.
Thought Iorio might get a dress rehearsal game this week, but otherwise no real shockers.
A little surprised that Malenstyn and Nardella got sent down without another game but it is what it is. I really love Beck and hope he clears, but if not, both are replaceable in grand scheme of things.
I think McIlrath is the only one with zero chance of being claimed. The others all have the potential to help some NHL teams and they are cheap. I would not be surprised if one or more was poached.
This group on waivers is a little nerve-wrecking for Bears’ fans. It can have a huge impact on the Hershey roster if some of those guys get claimed. With Stevenson out, the goalie depth would take a big hit if Fucale got claimed. Losing Pilon would hurt the offense and any of the defensemen would have big implications on the blue line. I’m a big Malenstyn fan and I’d hate to lose him, but I think he’s the player that is the easiest to replace. He brings a lot to the table with his penalty killing & physical play, but there are players that can play that role in Hershey.
NHL launches dynamic signage initiative beginning this season
Jon, your thoughts? I think that could hurt teams if local advertisers have their physical ads only visible to the fans in the arena, not the home audience. I also worry when anything goes ‘dynamic.’ How distracting are the dashers going to be for tv viewers?
Back on topic, 3 hours to go and NHL.com isn’t reporting any waiver activity of note across the league.
