The Captain, the Kids, and the Commanders: Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Alexeyev, and Aliaksei Protas Attends Washington Commanders’ Season Opener

NBC Sports Washington

Just a few days after joining the Washington Capitals’ informal skates at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, captain Alex Ovechkin attended another first, visiting FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland for the Washington Commanders’ (NFL) first game of the season, along with Capitals prospects Alexander Alexeyev and Aliaksei Protas.

Ovechkin, who previously attended the team’s (then-known as the Washington Football Team) home season opener in 2021 (picture above), was also joined by wife Nastya and oldest son Sergei.

Alexeyev and Protas, who figure to be contributors in the Capitals’ lineup at some point in the not-too distant future, shared photos to their Instagram stories of their view of the crowd and stadium.

The Capitals’ own season will begin on October 12, against the Boston Bruins, following training camp and preseason, which begin on September 22.

So his family is here with him? GREAT. I think he will be able to focus more on hockey if he’s not missing them and worrying about them back in Moscow.

I’m sure he was asked to attend, to show support, like every season. The Commanders could have at least sent him a new jersey and hat.

    Great comeback by the Redskins.
