Things are (finally) beginning to stir at Washington Capitals headquarters, as players slowly begin to return from their summer vacations. The Capitals first preseason is less than one month away. Here’s the latest odds and ends from the Capitals’ universe.
Back To School! – Informal workouts are already underway at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Friday included instruction from Capitals skating coach Wendy Marco. On hand for today’s lesson were Hendrix Lapierre, Lars Eller, Garnet Hathaway, Joe Snively, Alex Alexeyev, Peter Laviolette, jr. and Sam Anas.
Tom Wilson has been back in town for a few days. He of course is rehabbing after his knee surgery and will miss the start of the season, but it’s good to see his smiling face back in Arlington.
T.J. Oshie – Osh held a personal skate earlier this week and posed for a photo with his daughter Leni and son Campbell. 😁😁😁
The Oshie family also headed out for dinner earlier this week to work on their food-tossing skills. 😁
Dmitry Orlov signaled the pending conclusion of his off-season in a post to his Instagram account on Thursday. He made the typical post advertising the company that loaned him a car for the summer, as many out-of-town players tend to do. Orlov said he is expected to return in early September.
John Carlson – And finally, Capitals defenseman John Carlson got in a little clothes shopping earlier this week. For me, it’s the whole ensemble, crocs, backwards hat and dress jacket, that makes this a winning look. 😁
FARM REPORT
The Four Nations tournament got underway in Finland on Thursday. Washington Capitals forward prospect Ludwig Persson and Team Sweden took their opening game against Czechia, 5-4. Persson began the tournament on the top line, but was held off the scoresheet. We will have a full report coming at the conclusion of the tournament.
Persson was dropped to the 4th line for Game 2.
RINK LINKS
- Capitals prospect Bogdan Trineyev has had a heck of a month of August, which included hanging with his idol, Alex Ovechkin.
- Who are the winners and losers of the 2022 off-season?
- Former Capitals prospect Shane Gersich signed with the Hershey Bears on Thursday.
- The NHL held their European media day earlier this week. Martin Fehervary was in hand to represent the Capitals.
NHL Links
- NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said this week he believes the NHL salary cap could see a significant increase following the 2023-24 season.
- Daly also said he doesn’t think there will be any issues with players returning from Russia.
- And finally, the NHL is on track for the return of the World Cup of Hockey in 2024.
47 days until opening night! Have a great weekend, everybody!
Jon
Good to see Willy!
And standing. 👍💪👊
Loving Carlson’s new look! The crocs and jacket kill me.
Yo! Mrs. Oshie, please invite me to dinner!🙏
+1 !
Rumor has it that this may be the weekend for the long awaited Tom Wilson wedding. And was the reason for his fresh haircut.
Other recent news — adorable content on Leni Oshie playing family with Vince (who else) as her hubby and a baby doll baby. And she’s gotten some hair extensions (as she’s now sick of very short hair.)
Will anyone sign Peter Laviolette to a PTO as he actually looked great at Development Camp?
Diane, thanks for asking what I was going to about Junior. Thought maybe I had missed a signing.
Probably living at dad’s house and getting a workout in. So far he remains unsigned by any team.
