According to Sport Bladet, unrestricted free agent left-wing and Washington Capitals trade deadline acquisition Johan Larsson signed a three-year contract that will pay him $370,547.40 per season with Brynäs IF of the Swedish Hockey League. The contract is the most lucrative one that the club has ever awarded.
The 30-year-old was about to sign with the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 13, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Freidman, before that fell through.
The Capitals acquired Larsson from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a 2023 third-round pick on March 21.
After missing the first four games of his Capitals’ tenure with a lower-body injury sustained on January 25, Larsson tallied a goal and six points in 14 regular-season games and two assists in six Stanley Cup Playoff outings. He finished the season with seven goals and 21 points in 43 games with the Coyotes and Capitals.
In 488 career NHL regular-season games with the Capitals, Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, and Minnesota Wild, Larsson earned 53 goals and 132 points.
He played two seasons with Brynäs before coming over to the NHL in 2012-13.

getting him was a total waste and a thrown away draftpick. To behonest I believe that this GM would rather have an old slow team than ever have any draft picks. I vote get rid of the old stinky GMBM!!!!!!! Please bring in someone more intune with what is happening in the NHL and can bring in useful players not washed up ones or hurt ones. So tired of seeing our draft picks go out the door and nothing of value come back.
Larsson was good.
Larsson had pretty good numbers. He was brought in just for defense, and did a really good job in that role. He even added some offense, which was not expected.
He was brought in to play a defensive role and did well in it, only costing a 3rd round pick. Not many picks outside of goalies picked late in the 3rd round or later become regular NHLers. And he isn’t a slow player. I agree with no resigning him, but was hoping to see AJF, Leason, or Malenstyn maybe get the shot on the 4th line.

Me too but I don’t hate bringing MJ90 back. The room loves him.
Caps should have brought him back, but maybe they know something. No other NHL team made an offer.
