Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, in association with the Department of Sports for the City of Moscow, the International Hockey Academy, the Moscow Computer Sports Federation and the Fonbet betting company, is holding an NHL 22 tournament with a grand prize of 1 million rubles ($16,500).
The event will take place on August 13 at the Festival Square of the Luzhniki Olympic Complex. Ovechkin will take part in the competition. The first qualifications for the OviCyberCup will be held on August 6 and 7.
The NHL 22 tournament will take place on PlayStation 5 consoles and will be divided into three divisions – Pro, Semi-pro and Amateur.
Players will be invited to the professional and semi-professional divisions, while the amateur division can be entered based on the results of four open qualifying tournaments, which will be held on the Moscow eSports platform.
It is expected that Ovechkin will be returning to the Washington around the first week of September to begin preparations for the 2022-23 NHL season.
