Washington Capitals forward prospect Henrik Rybinski and the Seattle Thunderbirds finished their WHL Western Conference Finals series with a Game 7 victory over the Kamloops Blazers on Tuesday night. The victory earns Seattle a Western Conference Championship and a berth in the WHL Championship, set to begin on Friday.

Rybinski came up big for the Thunderbirds in the decisive Game 7. He recorded an assist on the Thunderbirds second goal of the night and added a goal late in the second period to give the Thunderbirds a 3-1 lead. Rybinski’s marker would be the eventual game-winner, as Seattle hung on for the 3-2 victory and a 4-3 series win.

The Thunderbirds will face the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL Championship series set to begin Friday at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Rybinski finished the 2021-22 regular season with 21 goals and 44 assists in 47 games played for a 1.38 points per game average, the 13th best average in the WHL this season. Rybinski was also named the Thunderbirds regular season MVP on April 10.

Rybinski and QMJHL defenseman Martin Has are the last two players in the Capitals organization to still be playing hockey as the calendar strikes June. Has and the Shawinigan Cataractes forced a decisive Game 5 against the Charlottetown Remparts in the QMJHL semi-finals with a 3-2 overtime victory on Monday. The two teams will play again on Wednesday night to determine who advances to the finals.

Next stop for Rybinski and Has, after the Finals and a couple of months off, will be Hershey, Pennsylvania in September.
