According to The Athletic’s Murat Ates, assistant coach Scott Arniel is “an apparent lock” to join the Winnipeg Jets’ coaching staff for the 2022-23 NHL season as an associate. Arniel has been an assistant on the Washington Capitals’ coaching staff under Todd Reirden and Peter Laviolette for the past four seasons.
The #Caps don’t comment on coaching contracts but it’s believed Arniel’s deal has expired in D.C. He’s been an assistant with WSH since 2018-19. https://t.co/a7dExc4YOF

Prior to coming to Washington, Arniel was an assistant coach for the New York Rangers and the head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2010-12.
In addition, Arniel worked as an assistant coach for the AHL’s Manitoba Moose from 2000-02 before leaving to work as an assistant coach for the Buffalo Sabres. In 2006, he returned to the Moose to become head coach where he led them to four Calder Cup Playoff appearances (including a final loss to the Hershey Bears, the Capitals’ minor league affiliate, in 2009).
Arniel was drafted 22nd in the second-round of the 1981 NHL Draft by the Jets and spends his offseasons in Winnipeg.
Ates added that an official announcement from the Jets regarding Arniel likely will not come until a head coach is named. The team remains “all in” on 2018 Stanley Cup Champion Barry Trotz, who was fired by the New York Islanders on May 9 and is mulling his future before deciding where to coach next.
In addition to the Jets, the Philadelphia Flyers, Vegas Golden Knights, Detroit Red Wings are among the teams interested in pursuing Trotz.

Losing the wrong assistant.
You are correct.
Caps losing Carbery to Toronto and now Arniel to The Peg are two huge losses. Caps need to figure out how to keep these guys.
Can he take Blaine Forsythe with him?
That’s a big 10-4
Take Lavy too
Winnipeg has no head coach. Does this mean they hired Trotz?
Reading between the lines, sounds like Trotz will also head to The Peg. Just hasn’t been announced yet.
Fun fact. In 2014, Washington traded their 4th pick to Rangers in order to get a 3rd pick, with which they drafted Nathan Walker, and Rangers drafted Sheterkin with that 4th round pick.
This should open the conversation about brining Carbery to Washington. I think it needs to be a promotion so we probably have to give him an Associate Coach title. Don’t know if we’ll be forced to give up compensation or if Toronto would even let him go. But since there playoff track record is worse than ours, maybe.
Sad to say this but should have been Lav and his McCarthy and while you are at it take Forsythe and GMBM with you. Send them all somewhere as a package. time to start a slow rebuild and the frist place that ahs to happen in the coaching staff and front office. Why, you ask, does GMBM have to go…..best example of that is this year when he traded picks that we could have used for 2 useless players thinking he was going to go deep in the playoffs. The lomger their wait to make chamges and try to kep things status quo the longer you are goingto see more years like this or worse befroe there is a rebuild and the longer yu wait the longer it is going to take. This years draft was deep yet he gav up picks. Time to move on from the Ovie era and look for the next franchise player. Enjoy him for a fewmore years but dont expect playofs and definately no Cups!
