Following a day off on Saturday, the Washington Capitals held their final interviews with the media on Sunday morning. Forward Tom Wilson gave a little more detail about his injury in Game 1 of their first round series with the Panthers.
Wilson called his injury “pretty significant” but didn’t want to say what the specific knee injury was. Wilson said he was unsure how it happened.
Tom Wilson says he has a “pretty significant” knee injury. Surgery is possible. Asked if it was an ACL tear, Wilson didn’t want to get into too many details. “My summer sucks now.” pic.twitter.com/3EFyqgCce3

Capitals GM Brian MacLellan said Wilson would not have been able to play in the playoffs no matter how far they team went. He said a decision on whether he’ll need surgery on his knee will be made in next couple days.
Wilson sustained the knee injury in the first period of Game 1 and did not return to the game or the series. He played a total of 1:31 and three shifts for the series.
Day to day in playoff parlance is like “Only a flesh wound” in Monty Python when a limb has been amputated
I have seen interviews with retired athletes still in their 30s showing off all their battle scars, itemizing their broken bones, discussing their surgeries. One has to be truly dedicated to be an athlete at this level.
Hope you are able to get that knee taken care of. We sure missed you in the playoffs.
You had a great season. You are a warrior and will be back in no time probably with a lot of summer work. We are pulling for you…..The best to you.
Well said, Steve. 👊
Sounds like an MCL. Working back to play is odd, though.
That didn’t add up on my end either. Significant knee injury but working back to play doesn’t make sense. Unless he was going to give it a go under a local. Still, if it’s a tear of any kind, that’s sounds risky.
Ugh. Willy has been fairly healthy in his career. A sign of getting old, trust me.
Knee injuries are bad and never get betteron their own if it is a tear which this oulds like. Time to schedule surgery so you will be ready to play at some point next season depending on the surgery. Putting it of does nothing but keep you in pain and not doing the things you like and love. Hurry up and get well so you can get back to what you like and love!
Hoping you get well soon, Wilson! You were sorely missed during these last few games. Sad to hear about a knee injury – those are always tough for rehab.
