The Washington Capitals’ 4-3 overtime loss to the Florida Panthers in Game 6 of their first round playoff series on Friday night ended the team’s season earlier than hoped, despite a heroic comeback effort by TJ Oshie late in regulation. While the bitter disappointment is still fresh, members of the team took to social media to extend their appreciation for the fan base.

Just hours after scoring a game-tying goal with 1:01 left in regulation to force overtime, right wing TJ Oshie took to Twitter to thank the Caps’ fan base for their support during the season, referencing the team’s memorable Stanley Cup victory celebrations in 2018 saying, “You deserve a longer run and parties in the streets…again”, adding the hashtags “Best Fans”, and “AllLove”.

Oshie’s fellow right wing Tom Wilson also shared his appreciation for the fans’ support throughout an at times, up and down 2021-22 season. Wilson missed the duration of the series with a day-to-day injury sustained in Game 1 of the series.

The Capitals shared a tweet following the heart-wrenching loss to their official social media accounts, saying, “We love you, #ALLCAPS fans. Thanks for being with us every step of the way this season…”.

Vitek Vanecek also thanked the fans for the support and expressing his dismay that the team could not advance.

Connor McMichael, who played his first season in the NHL, thanked the fans for their support in his inaugural campaign:

The Caps will hold their exit media interviews tomorrow at MedStars Capitals Iceplex before the offseason.
