After a tough, 3-2 loss in overtime to the Florida Panthers in Washington, D.C. on Monday, the Washington Capitals got off to a good start in the first period of Game 5, on a goal by right wing T.J. Oshie.
Oshie scored his fourth goal of the series and in five games on the power play at the 7:09 mark of the opening frame, assisted by John Carlson and Evgeny Kuznetsov.

With his goal, Oshie moved past Capitals great Peter Bondra in career playoff Points in franchise history, his 57th (27 goals, 30 assists) in a Caps sweater.
With Oshie’s 57th playoff point with Washington (27g, 30a), he has passed Peter Bondra (56) for seventh place on the franchise’s points list.

With the primary assist, Carlson passed his former Juniors and NHL Head Coach (and Capitals legend) Dale Hunter for third-most Points in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in franchise history, securing Point No. 73. During the regular season, Carlson tied and subsequently passed Hunter in career Points (regular season).
John Carlson and Evgeny Kuznetsov were credited with the assists on Oshie’s goal. With his 73rd career playoff point, Carlson has passed Dale Hunter (72) for the third-most playoff points in franchise history.

The goal put the Capitals ahead 1-0 in Sunrise, Florida, a lead they would hold heading into the first intermission.
