The Washington Capitals honored captain Alex Ovechkin prior to the game against the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. The ceremony acknowledged Ovechkin’s passing Jaromir Jagr for third place on the NHL’s all-time goal list and for recording his ninth 50-goal season in his career.
Ovechkin, who was out of the lineup Tuesday night due to an upper body injury he sustained against the Maple Leafs on Sunday, was honored with a tribute video, which included messages from his family.
Ovechkin was also presented with a painting from the Capitals organization. Ted Leonsis, chairman and CEO of Monumental Sports & Entertainment will join Ovechkin on the ice for the ceremony.
All fans in attendance received a Commemorative 3rd All-Time banner featuring milestones from Ovechkin’s career.

Wondr if Ovi had input into the gift. Not what we are used to seeing but it is a nice addition to one of his museums.
Congratulations Captain!
