Already having had a milestone 2021-22 regular season, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored his 48th goal of the year against the Colorado Avalanche, and once more found himself in the NHL record books.
Ovechkin scored his goal at the 13:27 mark of the second period on the power play, assisted by Evgeny Kuznetsov and John Carlson.

With his 48th goal in his age 36 season, Ovechkin tied NHL great Teemu Selanne for the most goals scored in a single season aged 36-years old or older; Selanne accomplished the feat in the 2006-07 season.

The Avalanche have also been scored on by the Capitals’ captain 10 times over the course of his career, becoming the 28th franchise on which Ovechkin has lit the lamp. This accomplishment moved him into an exclusive list of players in league history to do so.
That marks Ovechkin’s 10th career goal against the Avalanche, the 28th different franchise Ovechkin has double digit goals against. He has joined Joe Sakic, Brendan Shanahan and Marian Hossa as the only players in NHL history to score at least 10 goals against 28 franchises.
