Sucker Punch in the Steel City: Sidney Crosby Punches Nic Dowd in the Face, Dmitry Orlov Scores Moments Later

When it comes to national television matchups, there is perhaps no better than the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins. When these two, longtime rivals play one another, a playoff-like feel is apparent and tempers can sometimes flare. During the team’s opening period against the Pens, Washington Capitals Center Nic Dowd was sucker-punched by Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

With the puck leaving the Caps’ defensive zone, Crosby and Dowd became entangled in a scuffle, which ended with the Penguins’ superstar throwing a left to the jaw of Dowd, who fell to the ice momentarily.

The play drew a penalty from the officials, however Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov scored prior to Pittsburgh gaining possession of the puck, negating a potential power play for the visiting Caps.

This is not the first incident in which Crosby has reacted in such a way against the Capitals this season. In an eventual 6-1 Caps win, Crosby sent Washington defenseman Martin Fehervary into the end-boards, which did not receive disciplinary action from the NHL.

That is not a hockey play. Anyone else would get suspended. Wilson would be suspended for the rest of the season.

Sid has a temper and it’s a shame that he has been Canada’s Golden Boy and allowed to get away with garbage he has done.

“Crosby sent Washington defenseman Martin Fehervary into the end-boards, which did not receive disciplinary action from the NHL.”

Let’s be clear — Sid did not even get a phone call from DOPES to discuss it. DOPES totally ignored it.

DoPS is a joke….I hope someone cleans Crosby’s clock the next time he pulls crap like this.

That’s why I call the office DOPES. I was hoping one of the Preds would clean his clock today but alas, they just let him score twice.
