Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie has just purchased a new mansion in Northern Virginia. According to the Washington Business Journal, Oshie and his wife Lauren paid $7.5 million earlier this month for a newly constructed 9,890-square-foot home on Dogue Hill Lane. The five-bedroom, eight-bath home is within the exclusive Langley Farms community.

Work on the home was completed in 2021, though the property was originally listed in November 2020 for $7.95 million, according to realtor.com. The asking price was upped to $8.295 million in June 2021 before selling March 3 for $7.5 million.

According to Washington Business Journal, the three-story property features custom steel doors, a “dramatic water feature on the back patio,” upper-level terrace with barbecue station, light-filled gallery and library, “dramatic formal staircase,” elevator, “grand main suite with two large dressing rooms and a dramatic cathedral ceilings,” fitness studio, game room and pool.

Photos show a three-car garage, a kitchen with two islands, two-sided fireplace and a glass-enclosed wine cellar.

“We think it’s the nicest house we’ve ever built, and we’ve won awards for best new home above 7,000 square feet in Northern Virginia,” said Jeff Griffin of Alexandria’s Griffin Moran, adding the Oshies were “just a pleasure to deal with.”

The sale comes five years after Oshie, then 30, signed an eight-year, $46 million deal with the Capitals. Also in 2017, the Oshies acquired the Langley Lane home of Boston Properties’ executive Ray Ritchey for $5.2 million. That home remains in the couple’s possession and has not yet hit the market, according to public records and various listing sites, but it is expected to at some point.

Interesting purchase and beautiful home. I can’t help but to be curious if this means they intend to stay in the DMV after his career. Of course, I know he can sell this home, but why go thru the drag of moving if you likely will move back to Washington state or someplace else after career. I doubt they “outgrew” the house they are likely to sell. Anyway, looks to be a wonderful home and good for them!

Real estate is almost always a good investment. Even if they were to have to move at some point, the investment will be solid.

Hockey families move all the time. Like we military families, we can pack and move with our eyes closed. This house has more amenities than their other and is bigger. There’s more room for visiting friends and family, which strangely the other house was limited. Additionally, more privacy, since their other house was more visible to neighbors and public. Oshie still has several years here in the area, so they’ll get use out of it and will be able to sell without any loss.
It’s obvious that this home’s open floor plan is built for large group entertaining, much like Ovechkins home, which their other house was not, with the traditional French Provincial style.

Don’t try calling him. He has no cell reception there. Langley has everything blocked out.
