Media Requests Alex Ovechkin Availability; Will Speak In The Coming Days

Availability for Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was requested by the media Thursday morning in New York, but he was not made immediately available. It appears Ovechkin will meet with the media in the coming days regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Ovechkin’s family, including his wife and two sons, are currently in Russia and have been there for most of the month of February. Ovechkin’s mother and father are also currently in Russia.

The Capitals are in New York tonight but will then make their way to Philadelphia for an afternoon matinee with the Flyers on Saturday. The Capitals will then return home to host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.

This is a cultural thing, not hockey media specifically. People link closest known items (or people) to current events and want information from that person, as if they have more insight or knowledge than the general public. 🙄

Maybe it has something to do with his status? He is literally the most well known athlete in the history of his country, and he has publicly supported Putin over his entire career. Why do you think he doesn’t have more insight than the general American public about Russian issues? How absurd.

This almost smells like a premeditated attack on Ovechkin. Why not Orlov, Kuznetsov or Samsonov?

Its going to escalate. Eventually Russian players will be expelled.

His Instagram profile pic is tough to swallow right now. But he needs to do him, stick to whatever it is he believes in, whether i or we disagree.
