While an early goal by hometown forward Joe Snively got the Washington Capitals off to a good start against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, the Caps lost defenseman Justin Schultz early to injury.

The Capitals announced that Schultz would not return for the remainder of the game, citing an upper-body injury.

Schultz played just 4:50 on a night in which Capitals Head Coach and former Predators bench boss Peter Laviolette, Assistant Coach Kevin McCarthy, and defenseman Matt Irwin were honored by the Nashville faithful. It is unclear exactly how Schultz was injured.
