In the wake of the news that captain Alex Ovechkin would miss the 2022 NHL All-Star Game due to testing positive for the coronavirus, and ahead of their game against the Edmonton Oilers, the Washington Capitals made additional moves to adjust.
The team recalled right wing Brett Leason and goaltender Pheonix Copley from their taxi squad and assigned goaltender Hunter Shepard to the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears.

Leason has recorded three goals and six points in 32 Games Played with the Capitals this season, being part of a group of rookies who have contributed to the team’s success this season.
Copley, meanwhile, has gone 12-7-2 in 21 games with the Bears this season, with a 2.50 Goals-Against Average and .906 Save Percentage. He spent the 2018-19 season with the Capitals, going 16-7-3, with a 2.90 Goals-Against Average and .905 Save Percentage.
Shepard has played four games with the Bears this season, 3-1-0-0, with a 1.75 Goals-Against Average and .923 Save Percentage.
