Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin Tests Positive for COVID-19; Will Be Unavailable For Wednesday’s Game, NHL All-Star Weekend

The Washington Capitals announced Wednesday afternoon that captain Alex Ovechkin is unavailable tonight versus the Edmonton Oilers due to the NHL COVID-19 protocol. Based on a positive test result, Ovechkin will not participate in the 2022 NHL All-Star Game in Las Vegas this Friday and Saturday.

Per NHL/NHLPA’s new COVID protocols, today was the last day all players (including asymptomatic fully vaccinated players) needed to be tested.

Ovechkin was selected as the Metropolitan Division captain for the All-Star Game. A replacement has yet to be named. Center Evgeny Kuznetsov will be the lone representative from the Capitals.

This feels like Ovi’s annual skipping of the all star weekend. Am I wrong?

1000% what we’re all thinking. Objectively, I am good with it. It sucks he will miss the oils game but we got to keep thinking big picture 🙂
