Capitals Place Nick Jensen On IR

The Washington Capitals announced prior to their game against the Vegas Golden Knights at Capital One Arena (7 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington locally, NHL Network nationally) that defenseman Nick Jensen has been placed on injured reserve and will also not be eligible to play against the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday either.

The 31-year-old left the second period of the Capitals’ 4-3 loss against the Boston Bruins on Thursday after sustaining the injury. He attempted to skate at the team’s morning skate on Saturday but left the ice.

While averaging 19:20 per game (fifth among Capitals defenseman), including 2:19 on the penalty kill, Jensen has earned three goals, 11 points, and a +20 rating (which is tied for 10th in the NHL).

Jensen, who was labeled as week-to-week by head coach Peter Laviolette, will be eligible to return against the Dallas Stars on Friday.
