Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin Scores League-Leading 27th Goal of the Season; Passes Mike Modano for the 24th-Most Points In NHL History

The Great Eight continues staying hot. Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored his 27th goal of the season Tuesday night as the team clashed with the Winnipeg Jets at Capital One Arena. He now leads the league in goals and has passed Mike Modano (1,374) for the 24th-most points in NHL history.

After the Jets took an early 2-0 lead in the first period, Ovechkin got the Capitals on the board at the 16:58 mark, making it a 2-1 game. Right-wing Garnet Hathaway assisted, marking his seventh assist of the season and 14th point.

As mentioned, he now leads the league in goals with twenty-seven.

Additionally, Ovechkin has passed Modano (1,374) for the 24th-most points in NHL history.
