Defenseman Martin Fehervary, who was placed on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list on December 24, returned to the Washington Capitals‘ practice on Tuesday. With the 21-year-old out of protocol, no Capitals players are currently out due to reasons related to COVID-19.

However, there appears to be another illness spreading in the locker room as center Connor McMichael missed practice with a non-COVID-19-related illness. In addition, center Nicklas Backstrom and right-wing T.J. Oshie did not return after missing Sunday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils for the same reasons. They were not feeling well enough, according to head coach Peter Laviolette.

Defenseman Dmitry Orlov left practice early due to an undisclosed injury. Michal Kempny skated in his place.

Goaltender Ilya Samsonov left the ice at the end of practice and looked like he was in discomfort while talking to the trainer on the bench. Laviolette told the media afterwards that he did not know what happened and had not spoken with the trainers regarding Samsonov or Orlov.

What the hell are they doing to each other at these practices??! Ease up guys, at least try to make it to the games before you all get injured 😱
No doubt. It’s almost as if the lack of consistent playing time, extended breaks, is introducing a few minor injuries. Sammy always has issues, but rarely does Orlov need to leave the ice.
Well they have a fe more dys to get healthy as tonights game is cancelled. Guess Montreal has to many players on covid list. Going to really suck if they go ack to what they did last year with only playig certain teams. On another note the rookies are playing real well.
Please…no “bubble” hockey. That was fairly dismal.
