Goalie mask artist extraordinaire, Dave Gunnarsson, has been busy as usual at his paint shop in Sävsjö, Sweden, creating new designs for a number of the NHL’s top netminders. He’s even taken on a few new clients like recent arrival Ryan Bednard.
Bednard was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the seventh round (#206 overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, but was signed by the Hershey Bears last summer. He’s spent most of the season with the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL, but has been recalled by the Bears on two occasions and started one game for the Chocolate and White.
As for the design, Bednard’s new bucket incorporates several prominent features including a shaded Stingrays logo on one side of the mask and the inscription “Bedzy” on the other side. The Capitals Weagle sits prominently on top of the mask, with smaller versions of the Weagle found in other areas of the design.
Gunnarsson published images of the new design on his Instagram account on Monday.
Gunnarsson also included a brief video of the new design in a separate Instagram post on Monday.
Gunnarsson included the following inscription for both posts:
“🚨 It was an awesome paint ride to paint and create the new Caps⭐️🦅 mask for my friend Ryan Bednard😊. I love to paint in different style and theme from mask to mask🤓. Here is a design created in a total retro style👊🏻, crisp and clean in total 2️⃣-D. It is all painted very old school with a brush🖌🎨. Thanks Ryan! ⭐️🙏🏻 #RyanBednard @capitals #DaveArtFamily @nhl #DaveArtTheCradleOfCreativity mask: @warwickmask”
