It was a very exciting moment for Washington Capitals defenseman Alex Alexeyev Wednesday night. The 22-year-old took the traditional rookie solo lap prior to warmups ahead of the team’s clash against the Nashville Predators at Capital One Arena.

Alexeyev, the Capitals’ first-round pick, 31st overall, in the 2018 NHL Draft, is the sixth Washington rookie to make his NHL debut this season.
The Capitals are one of two teams this season to have at least nine rookies record a point (San Jose: 11). In total, Caps rookies have accounted for 32 points this season (15g, 17a), the fifth-most in the NHL.
