It was a very exciting moment for Washington Capitals defenseman Alex Alexeyev Wednesday night. The 22-year-old took the traditional rookie solo lap prior to warmups ahead of the team’s clash against the Nashville Predators at Capital One Arena.

Alexeyev, the Capitals’ first-round pick, 31st overall, in the 2018 NHL Draft, is the sixth Washington rookie to make his NHL debut this season.

The Capitals’ AHL affiliate Hershey Bears also tweeted congratulations to Alexeyev:

Alexeyev will slide onto the third defensive pairing with Matt Irwin.
