According to Washington Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette, right-wing Tom Wilson did not travel with the team for their game against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center (7 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington in-market, ESPN+ out-of-market). Wilson collided with goaltender Tristan Jarry with seven minutes left in the second period of the Capitals’ 4-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday. The 27-year-old is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Center Michael Sgarbossa will come in for Wilson against the Sabres.
However, defenseman Martin Fehervary will participate in the pregame skate on Saturday night and see how he feels before deciding whether he is in the lineup. The 22-year-old took a high hit from Penguins left-wing Brock McGinn in open ice midway through the second period on Friday and did not return.
Goaltender Vitek Vanecek is expected to start in Buffalo after Ilya Samsonov made 29 saves on Friday.
