Braden Holtby Saves 39 Of 40 In 500th Career Game, Sets Record For Most Wins In First 500 Games

Former Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby earned his 293rd career win on Tuesday night in a 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Holtby stopped 39 of 40 shots faced, including three incredible successive saves at the end of the game.

Hotby’s 293 career wins are the most by any goalie in NHL history through the first 500 career games. Jacques Plante (who didn’t have the benefit of OT/Shootouts) held previous mark with 292 wins through 500 games.

Holtby accrued 282 of his 293 wins in 468 games played in Washington. He was the second-fastest netminder to reach 250 career wins.

Following the game, Holtby was awarded the team’s player of the game award.

Holtby is 4-4-1 with a 2.30 GAA and a .927 save percentage so far this season with the Stars.

    He’s having a great year. Better numbers than both of the Capitals current goalies.

    I am still confused why the Caps didn’t consider bringin him back. After Vancouver bought him out of his contract, Dallas got him at discount. Would be nice for the Caps to have a veteran prescence.
