The Washington Capitals have re-assigned forward Axel Jonsson-Fjallby to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.
Jonsson-Fjallby, 23, has recorded one assist in eight games with Washington. Since making his NHL debut on Nov. 8 against the Buffalo Sabres, Jonsson-Fjallby ranks fourth on the Capitals in shot attempt percentage at five-on-five (52.4%).
Prior to his recall, Jonsson-Fjallby recorded seven points (3g, 4a) in nine games with Hershey this season.
In 31 games with the Bears last season, Jonsson-Fjallby recorded 15 points (10g, 5a) and set an AHL career high in goals per game (0.32). The 6’1”, 189-pound forward also played in 26 games with Vastervik IK in the Swedish Hockey League, where he recorded 15 points (4g, 11a).
In 117 career games with the Bears, the Stockholm, Sweden, native has recorded 48 points (27g, 21a).
The Capitals selected Jonsson-Fjallby with their fifth-round pick, 147th overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft.
Disagree with this move, but it’s likely more to do with the 30 day/10 game waivers rule and the team getting healthier.
“13.22 When a Club claims a Player on Regular or Unconditional Waivers, and, subsequently, in the same season it requests Waivers on the same Player and the original owning Club is the successful and only Club making a Waiver claim, then the original owning Club shall be entitled to Loan such Player to a club in another league within thirty days without further Waivers being asked; provided that such Player has not participated in ten or more NHL Games (cumulative) and remained on an NHL roster more than thirty days (cumulative) following such successful claim.”
So he doesn’t require waivers to be sent back to Hershey?
Correct.
Great! I say we keep him up next year because he will have to clear waivers after training camp and we” probably lose him again. we need to get rid of Hagelin’s contract somehow next year, I’d hate for GMBM to try keep him for the last year of his contract only to lose his replacement(Axel) 1 year earlier because he didn’t want to get rid of Hagelin. Bury Hags contract in the minors (Asset Management)!
Hags cant score worth sh&^, it’s like he is a table top hockey player, he has no elbows when he shoots!
Completely agree. Much less expensive AND he can shoot! We did a piece on his shot a while back. Very deceptive release.
