Shane Gersich Scores First Goal Of The Season, But Bears Give Up Five Unanswered Goals In Third Period For 7-3 Loss To Wolf Pack

The Hershey Bears fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack, 7-3 Saturday night at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. The loss drops the Bears record to 6-5-2-1 (15 points) on the season.

Hartford opened the scoring with a tally from Anthony Greco just 6:18 into the first period and would second goal a little over halfway through the opening stanza for a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.

The  Bears would cut the Wolf Pack lead to one early in the middle frame on Shane Gersich’s first goal of the season. The Bears would then tie the game midway through the middle frame with a deflected goal by Mike Sgarbossa. They would take their first lead of the game with a goal from Dylan McIlrath late in the middle frame for a 3-2 Bears lead at the second intermission.

The Bears would collapse in the third period, giving up five unanswered goals. The Wolf Pack would tie the game and retake the lead on a pair of goals by Lauri Pajuniemi and add a goal from P.C. Labrie for a 5-3 lead early in the final frame. Jonny Brodzinski would score a pair of late goals to make it 7-3, the final.

STARTERS

Zach Fucale (3-0-2-0, 1.73 GAA, .933 sv%) got the start between the pipes for the visiting Bears. Keith Kinkaid (7-1-1-0, 2.51 GAA, .919 sv%) got the start in goal for the Wolf Pack. The starting forward lines and defensive pairs for the Bears:

Scratches: Brian Pinho (injury), Mike Vecchione (injury), Tobias Geisser (injury) and Jake Massie.

Re-assigned: Forward Brett Leason was re-assigned to Herhsey on November 19.

FIRST PERIOD

The Wolf Pack opened the scoring with a goal from Anthony Greco (5) at 6:18 of the first period. Braden Schneider (5) had the lone assist.

The Wolf Pack would make it 2-0 with a goal from Patrick Khodorenko (1) at 12:13 of the first frame.The goal was unassisted.

The first period concluded with the Wolf Pack leading, 2-0. Hartford led in shots 9-5 after the first 20 minutes. Hartford was 0 for 3 and the Bears 0 for 1 on the power play in the first 20 minutes.

SECOND PERIOD

The Bears would get on the scoreboard early in the second period with a goal from Shane Gersich (1) at 1:33 of the second period.

The Bears would then tie it up on a shot by Lucas Johansen that was deflected in by Mike Sgarbossa (6) at 10:06 of the middle frame. Lucas Johansen (2) and Beck Malenstyn (2) had the helpers.

The Bears would take their first lead of the game with a goal from Dylan McIlrath (1), his first goal of the season at 15:13 of the second period. Mason Morelli (2) and Michal Kempny (3) had the assists.

The period would end with the Bears leading 3-2. The Bears led in shots 14-8 in the second period and 19-17 after two periods. Hershey was 0 for 3 and Hartford 0 for 4 on the power play after 40 minutes.

THIRD PERIOD

The Wolf pack would quickly storm back in the final frame.

They would tie the game early in the final period with a tally from Lauri Pajuniemi (4) at 2:53 of the third period. Ty Ronning (3) had the lone assist.

The Wolf Pack would then quickly retake the lead on a goal from Lauri Pajuniemi (5) at 3:57 of the final frame. Ty Ronning (4) and Tanner Fritz (7) had the assists.

The Wolf Pack would make it 5-3 on a tally from P.C. Labrie (2) at 4:24 of the third period.

The Wolf Pack would add another goal from Jonny Brodzinski (5) at 8:26 to make it 6-3 and a second goal from Brodzinski for the 7-3 final.
